This is Session 7 of the Summer 2023 series of Learn Kiowa Zoom Sessions, launched by Dr. Redbird-Post, 2022 Luce Indigenous Knowledge Fellow, in conjunction with LearnKiowa.org. Session 7 of Learn Kiowa Session for Teacher Credentialing Preparation focused on: Practicing the pronunciation of Level 1 Kiowa Grammar and Kiowa Grammar Matching on StudyStack.com (link here: https://www.studystack.com/users/dpoolaw/flashcard-3573767) and using Google Drive studying resources; Receiving feedback from our Kiowa Elder Mentors; Updates were shared from the various Kiowa Language Teachers who are teaching Kiowa Language in Oklahoma public school classrooms during the 2023-2024 school year; Zoom Breakout Rooms were available to focus on the following aspects of credentialing: Kinship Terms, Pronunciation, Story Read-Alouds, Nouns-Pronouns-Verbs; and questions from participants.
Credentialed Kiowa Language Teachers are teaching Kiowa language in Oklahoma schools during the 2023-2024 school year as follows: Anadarko High School, Carnegie High School, Moore Public Schools, Riverside Indian School, and Weatherford High School.
These sessions will be offered on Wednesdays, weekly, beginning June 14 through August 31 from 6:30pm-8:00pm, with an additional 30 minutes added on when an Immersion Session is planned. The agenda and syllabus are provided upon request. These sessions will support those who are interested in becoming Level 1 Credentialed Kiowa Language Teachers as well as current Level 1 Credentialed Kiowa Language Teachers interested in preparing for the Level 2 Kiowa Language Credentialing process. Breakout rooms in Zoom will be used to support individual areas of the credentialing process. Updates from the Kiowa Language Credentialing Board members will be shared when available.
LearnKiowa.org is a community-based, grassroots website launched by the Post Family and led by Dr. Redbird-Post with the goal of providing Kiowa language learners, interested Kiowa parents, and teachers of Kiowa children and students of all ages with an online archive of Kiowa language teaching and learning materials arranged by age group. Made possible by the First Nations Development Institute and the 2022 Luce Indigenous Knowledge Fellowship.
